Welcome to Perfectly Imperfect
Hello. My name is Geva. I struggled with addiction for ten years. It started with just a few drinks to “loosen me up” and ended with more than a bottle of wine every night just to get through my days. Being able to drink controlled much of my life.
What I didn’t initially understand is that there was so much going on underneath the drinking. I didn’t feel confident in my own skin and I was drowning all my other problems in alcohol because I was afraid to face them head-on.
Working on myself and my mental health gave me the courage to quit drinking and become proud of the person I am. My mantra for the past twenty years has been, “Who do you want to be?” because I don’t want to be a person who has to drink in order to survive.
Now I’m proud to be nine years sober and a person who works on my emotional well being every single day. I’m fortunate to help others through my work as a Behavioral Health Specialist in an inpatient mental health facility. I also serve as a Listener Poet, writing poems for others to help them process their emotions.
I believe everyone avoids uncomfortable circumstances and challenges. Some avoid by using substances, over or under eating and shopping. Others avoid by stuffing their feelings. And many avoid by not making decisions that feel too difficult. I’d like to share my story with you because I believe the principles in recovery from addiction are applicable to everyone. If you’re ready to address what’s holding you back and find more peace in your life, this is where you want to be.
